I started to have problems with the transmission of my 2004 F-150, so I checked on ratings of Transmission shops within a 30 mile radius. Al's Transmission seemed to have the most satisfied customers so I called them up and spoke to Jonathon. Jonathon listened to the description of my problem and asked about the particular vehicle. He said the problem might not be a transmission problem, but an ignition system problem (based on their experience with the year/model of my truck). This interested me because another transmission shop had not mentioned that possibility, and I knew that ignition problems could be much cheaper to fix. I took the truck to Al's and Jonathon drove the truck and checked the transmission and the ignition system. It turned out that cylinders 5 & 8 were mis-firing under load, causing it to feel like the tranny was slipping. He eliminated the spark packs as the problem and figured out that the spark plugs were bad. After replacing the 2 bad plugs, the truck ran smoothly. I never suspected that relatively new (25,000 miles on 100,000 mile rated plugs) spark plugs would be the problem. Anyway, I was grateful to get a relatively cheap repair, when a less knowledgeable or sketchy shop might has pushed me to very expensive transmission repair or replacement. Everyone I talked with was very nice and pleasant. I called to get a 2nd opinion on my car because Midas was going to charge me $1800-2000. I called Al's and he got me right in and came to find out it was something totally different and cost less than quarter what Midas would have charged me. I was traveling from Los Angeles to Detroit in my 1985 Jaguar XJ Vanden Plas when I parked on an incline. I could not work my gearshift. It was after 7:00 in the evening and after making several calls, it was recommended to me that I needed to take my car to Al’s transmissions. Since they were closed, I rolled the dice and had my tow truck driver haul my car to Al’s and dropped it off at 8:30 P.M. I took a Lyft back the next morning hoping I could get someone to take a look at my car. I spoke with Jonathan and told him my plight. I was due to be in Detroit in Friday. I felt incredibly lucky to have been directed to Al’s. Even though they were slammed with work, Jonathan put my car on the rack immediately and soon diagnosed a faulty cable. Even though they did not have a cable that would fit my car, they were able to jury rig the old cable and get me back on the road in a couple of hours! I am ecstatic! I believe the other mechanic’s name was Rod and I apologize if I got that wrong. These guys were not only professional, but they were sincerely two of the nicest and helpful mechanics I have ever met! They alleviated my anxiety completely and kept me on my trip’s timeline. On a Friday morning while visiting downtown St. Louis we had a transmission breakdown and were directed to call Al's. He quickly diagnosed the possible issue over the phone and by 1:00 we had the car towed to Al's. That same afternoon he was able to get the parts and fix our vehicle by 5:00 so we could be back in business for the rest of the weekend. We live several hundred miles away thus we had visions of having to rent a car and disrupt our weekend plans. Thanks to Al and staff for your flexibility and great service! -- Larry N 6/9/2019

Al is not only a good guy but any honest one at that. I recieved a quote from jack schmidt ford in collinsville il. For 6,781.00. Not only was the diagnosis wrong but they lied about issue that weren't actually happening. Al and his team saved me over $5000 and were professionals throughout the whole process. Over the last several years Al and his guys have rebuilt the transmission(350 turbo with a shift kit) and the rearend(went from 2.56 single trac to 3.55 limited slip posi, complete from axle to axle) on my '70 Chevelle. As usual, everything was done on time and with high quality and professionalism. The transmission in my daughter's car went out recently. I contacted John, at Al's Transmission right away. John told me to get the car to him so he could look at it. My daughter got the car to the shop, where John was able to diagnose the problem. John quoted a timeline and price on fixing the problem. To my surprise, I was contacted by the secretary at Al's Transmission and informed the car was fixed and ready to go! The reason for the surprise? It was finished a day and a half ahead of schedule, and at a price less than what he thought it would cost. Not only was that great, but it also saved me money for a rental car, due to the car was finished on a Friday, so I didn't have to pay for the car over the weekend. I am very happy and satisfied with the service I received at Al's Transmission! I recommend them highly! Visited Al's for first time a couple of weeks ago for transmission fluid leaking. A friend recommended Al's for knowledgeable mechanics providing reliable repairs. John was the mechanic who serviced my car, and he listened intently to the problem. After examining the car & diagnosing the problem, he explained it thoroughly to me and answered all my questions without talking down to me or seeming to be in a rush. He also detected lines that had rusted and needed to be replaced. He even showed me the amount of rust after he replaced them. Now I can recommend Al's for great customer service, professional & expert mechanical repair & fair prices.
